Does anyone know about the benefits of fasting on performance in endurance races? In the Mormon church (The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints), where I have been an active member for 61 years, the first
Sunday of each month you fast and go without food or water for two meals (about
24 hours)and then donate the money you saved to the poor and needy. That is a brilliant idea. It humbles you
because you start to feel what it is like to be hungry and then at that time
donate to the poor that may be hungry many more days then just once a
month. The bishop (minister) of the congregation
then uses the funds to help those in his congregation that need assistance,
then passes on the balance to the stake (like a diocese), which uses what it
needs, then passes on the balance to SLC where it is used world-wide to help
the poor and needy. A great system. I’ve heard about but never really studied the health
benefits of fasting as it pertains to an endurance race.
