Hi, I'm Richard Dance...

I'm the Coeur d'Alene Triathlon's 2013 Sponsored Athlete!!! This blog will be used to share how my progress is going with training updates, my highs & lows and everything in-between. Thanks for following my journey!

A little about me...

Richard Dance married Julienne Hawkes from Pocatello, ID in April of 1974. Since then in Pocatello, Bremerton, Seattle, and Bellevue they have had 7 boys and 1 daughter that have gone on to be high school athletes and academic scholars.  All seven of their boys are Eagle Scouts and lettered in varsity cross country beginning their freshman year at Newport High School.  Their daughter was freshman athlete of the year at Newport and won the CDA Young Artist competition in the violin.  Richard used to run with them from age 4 up, but as they have grown he can’t keep up with them anymore except in a short fun run, much less biking or swimming.

Julienne has gone on to run in a few triathlons with her friends. Several of their sons and cousins have competed quite well at endurance events, and Maria ran the CDA triathlon last year.  But Richard has never run one.  He needs to.  At almost age 62, it is important for his health to do so.

Richard remembers in 1975 when his body fat was about 3% whereas now it is closer to 30% which is just beginning to border on obese.  He has had an active life style with his kids, but isn’t sure how active he can be with his grandkids, who can already beat him down the mountain skiing at Schweitzer.

During Richard’s 35 years of business experience in public accounting and tax mitigation work and as a corporate officer with various companies he has not exercised as regularly as he wished to.  Although he has appeared regularly at national seminars, tradeshows, radio shows, webinars and conference calls to discuss alternative investments and tax strategies he has not gotten out each night or morning while on the road and hit the hotel gym or pool. Currently he is a consultant for Legacy Point Capital, Strategic Capital Partners, and Premium-Consultant LLC and still does tax mitigation work and discusses alternative investments with clients.  In his early career and while a Senior Manager at KPMG he became the most often quoted businessman by the news media in Washington and was a frequent speaker to the Seattle Chamber of Commerce. He is a native of Seattle that graduated as valedictorian from Queen Anne High School in 1969. Like his sons he is also an Eagle Scout. His passion is teaching and in a typical year he usually gives 24 major speeches using mind maps rather than PowerPoint as a more effective way to transmit knowledge.  Richard has been on the cutting edge of technology for the past 40 years.

In his community in Somerset he served on the board as the Emergency Preparedness and Safety Coordinator and he and his wife served as the Co-Presidents of the NHS PTSA.  Some of their children have started to gravitate towards Northern Idaho. Tom is the dentist at Dance Dentistry for Kids and David is an ophthalmologist that will be joining the North Idaho Eye Institute in June.  Richard & Julienne now enjoy the sky and spaciousness of Hayden, Idaho.
